Warning! Highs and lows

Yes I've put a warning for this chocolate cake as after a slice of it my eldest seems to go hyper. I made this for her 8th birthday and haven't made a habit of making since but thought I'd treat her for her 14th, possibly in the hope that it would keep her in our company for as long as it would take to eat it. Once you see the ingredients you'll understand why. It is incredibly gorgeous though.

Look at that gooeyness.

I baked it in a square tin but then realised that the tin was too big, plus I didn't have a plate big enough to hold the cake so I had to cut it in half and double it up. Big one didn't mind though, double gooeyness! :)

You can see how moist it is in the middle.

More gooeyness? Oh yes it's not over yet.
Here comes the topping...

Voila. One Bruce Bogtrotter's Chocolate Cake. You know Bruce Bogtotter, he's the wee lad who had to eat the whole cake because the horrible headmistress in Matilda made him. ;)

Right as promised a picture of the beautiful bookmark I received from Dinosaurtoes in her giveaway.
Beautifully wrapped
I feel so special with my posh bookmark.
Thank you so much dinosaurtoes. I would highly recommend everyone to go visit her etsy and blog as she makes the most gorgeous things.

I'm not one for sitting watching tv during the day usually but while I was typing this up I stuck the tv on to catch a bit of This Morning. Did I chose the day to do that! I was so sad to hear about David Cameron's son, Ivan who died yesterday. My heart goes out to his family. Of course on This Morning they were doing a segment about child bereavement and Denise the Agony Aunt has just had me in tears, as she was in tears herself. Losing a child is never ever the right order of things. So to all of us who have had to say goodbye far too soon. Look for the beauty in the smallest things and there you will see they are sending you a smile. (((hugs)))

I'm baaaaack!

Thanks to everyone who wished me a nice time. It was lovely but boy believe people when they tell you Denmark is expensive!

Despite several of the Danish people (who were lovely) telling us that Danes are kinda closed and private, all the one's we met didn't seem to be. Maybe that's just the effect we have on people. :D

We walked for miles and did the sites.

And tasted the food.
This is a typical brunch. I forgot to place the plate of fresh fruit and pancakes in the shot. Ooops

This is called Danish hash.
Basically it is bits of beef and pork and fried potatoes, served with a fried egg on top and bread on the side.
I don't think I cleared my plate once while we were away. BIG portions. I also had a local kind of stew thing which was gorgeous but didn't take a photo as the restaurant was kind of dark and I wasn't up to frightening all the other diners with the flash on my camera. LOL

All the florists were a riot of colour and I'd have loved to bring so many plants home with me, including a wee lemon tree with huge lemons. All planted up in a normal size plant pot! But I doubt I'd get many lemons up here in Scotland.

And my dear husband kindly made me stand in front of this shop while he took my photo. Can you see why?

Actually I took a photo of him outside a shop earlier in the day but he says that is not for general consumption. Let's just say the name of the shop was the word used for a needle entering your skin only with out the c before the k. ;)

Back tomorrow with pics of my lovely bookmark that I won in Dinosaurtoes giveaway, the gooeyist chocolate cake ever that I made for big one for her birthday and finally the results of the 'what I did with the teapcups' saga.

på gensyn i næste uge

Apparently that means see you next week.
My taxi is coming in 8 hours and then I'll be offline while I force myself to enjoy myself in Denmark.
Behave while I'm away ;)

Stand back....

my stomach feels like it's going to explode!
My mum bought us a waffle maker and tonight we had waffles again. This time it was big fluffy ones and my god they are filling.

A customer commented to me last night that I have lost weight. Think he might change his mind if he could see my tummy just now LOL
That's where I seem to have spent my week so far....work. But I guess the extra money will be handy as apparently a pint of lager costs roughly £4.50 over in Denmark. :o
This morning I spent hours filling out an application form for a full time job. I'm not going to say too much as I don't want to jinx myself but it's in the field that I was in before I took the career break with the kids and yes it would mean less crafting time but ah well I probably shouldn't set my hopes up too high.

Other news is that I had a lot of the books I had on order for ages from the library arrive today.
The librarian did double check that I still wanted this one.

"Of course!" I replied. Well to be fair to her I have had it on order since an age before Xmas but at least now I've got plenty of time to read it and save the recipes I want to try for next Xmas. :D

I have a lot of inspiration to look forward to, here are two of the other books now in my possession. Well for a few weeks.

I didn't realise how lucky I am that I can request books for free with my library, I didn't know there was a charge with other librarys. To be honest I think that's terrible, isn't the whole point of the library that it is a way to get books for free? Plus if people don't request them to be brought to their local library the interesting books just all sit in one library forever. Our local library is only a wee thing and is only open for 2 hours, 5 days a week but the staff are brilliant.

As I've had my Mum staying up with us I've had chance for her to sit with me and refresh my very rusty crochetting skills. With a bit (lot) more practice I'm hoping that I might just be able to produce something half decent sometime this year.

I am so looking forward to sharing something very sweet with you tomorrow, till then here are my favourite outside flowers.

And thanks to everyone who sent big one birthday wishes. She had all her hair cut off today into a funky short style. Now she looks even more grown up! :)

Good grief

where did that week go?
Big one had a great birthday I made her favourite sticky gooey chocolate cake and one of her favourite meals. I'll be back with pics my camera is currently on charge.
I've been busy with work, kids, blah blah blah.
But come friday me and him indoors are off for a 'just the two of us' trip to Denmark. Every year when my Mum comes up to stay with us we try to get away for a few days and this time it's Denmark.

I'm working again tomorrow night so my blogger might be a bit sporadic for the next week or so but I promise I will bore you with all my pictures real soon ;)

My thoughts and heart

are both with all those being so deeply affected by the fires in Australia. I have friends who live over there that I have been out of touch with for too long so tonight I had to jump online and let them know they were in my thoughts.

I've noticed a lot of people are putting the proceeds of their Etsy shops or other donations over to help out those over there. What a fantastic community the blogosphere is. ((((((hugs))))))

While I have yet to dip my toe into the worlds of either Etsy or Folksy I would like to make a step forward in that direction. I have noticed quite a few people sell things through their blogs but I am clueless as to how you get those pay now buttons etc. Can anyone help out a dumb Taz?

Safe dreams my friends, tomorow I will be back with awards I've received, a giveaway that I received that is gorgeous and what I have been up to with my flowery new teacups. Well that's tomorrow as in later today, as it is now 1.20am here and I have to go now wrap up my big one's birthday presents and write her card. My wee baby is 14 tomorrow! How can I possible be old enough to have a 14 year old?!?

Fabric frenzy

Another cold snowy day. Look at my poor pansies.
and my barenaked Acer.

But while waiting and waiting for my coalman to arrive and bring me lots of lovely black gold, the postie arrived and look at the goodness she brought me today.

A close up darling...

Eldest small person chose this one, she's wanting to make up some bags so she can raise some spending money for a upcoming school trip.

Honesty how cute is this fabric?

Bring on spring cos I've got the wee birdies!
What's better than a skull fabric or a robot fabric? Well a fabric with both them on of course.

Did we say cute?

I really can't recommend FabricRehab highly enough. They have an amazing collection of fabrics and they are super fast. I ordered this little lot online on Monday and it arrived today - despite all the snow that seems to have ground everything else to a halt. :)

Despite several delays and one train breaking down my Mother arrived safely this evening. She's already emptied the washing that I'd put in on my way out of the door to collect her from the train station. LOL

This is my wee beast Oscar he was standing guard when the snow started.

Feast your eyes

Ok then I promised pictures of my Charity shop goodies so here goes.

Price = either 20p or 50p each
Lots of lovely books. Some have some very retro patterns in, in fact there is a pattern for crochet clothes for a dolly. I remember my gran used to make them for my dollys when I was little. Shame I didn't like dollys but I appreciated (even then) all the work she did.

Price = £3A double duvet cover that I will using for the material not as a duvet. Isn't it pretty?

Price = £2
A Pyrex casserole dish, Mother will be pleased as everytime she visits she moans I don't have enough dishes.

Price = £1
I don't know what it is about this bowl, maybe it's merely its simplicity. But I had to have it. Don't you think it looks good on my coffee table full of fruit?

Now I feel I have to explain this next one. I am nor have ever been a girly kind of girl. My profile picture is me messing about with hats in Primark with the small people...you won't usually see me like that :) Anyway I'm not sure what was going on with me yesterday. It could have been the excitement at finding so many pretty things, maybe in my old age my feminity is starting to kick in. Who knows but tell me honestly is it not pretty?

Price = £5 for the 16 piece set

I've looked on line but can't seem to find this pattern, lots similar but not this one.

And there is still more...
Price = £1.50Again with the flower thing? Maybe I'm hormonal.

This next one is now sitting on my kitchen window sill nursing my poorly peace lily (hopefully) back to life.

Price = 90p
That's a 2p piece on the table next to it to hopefully show you how huge it is.

And finally I totally fell in love with this. For some reason it makes me think of a chicken. No..my friend didn't understand that one either. But it is lovely.

And there you go. All my goodies. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long ;)

Today I went to our local indoor play centre with my friend and her 16 month old son. He had my climbing all the way up to the big slide (ok I did offer) but it's not just a simple case of walking up some stairs. Oh no!!.. it's one of those that is on different levels and its like a maze. And of course you have to take your shoes off but HAVE to keep your socks on so while you're climbing up a ramp (bearing in mind by the second time my wee pal had decided it was far easier if I carried him) your slipping back down due to your socks. Anyway needless to say he fell asleep in his pram on the walk back and me and his Mum decided we were going to go sit on our respective sofas and chill. So thanks blogging all this has kept me awake and now my youngest small person has just come through the door and is now rooting around in the kitchen looking for something to eat. So best go make sure she's finding something suitable. Oh and I better for sort out the spare room, my Mother arrives tomorrow for a 3 weeks stay and him indoors didn't put all the Xmas boxes away properly so if I don't she'll have no floor space. ;)
